The Gulfport School District Board of Trustees recognized outstanding students, educators, and programs during its June board meeting, highlighting the district’s commitment to excellence in academics, leadership, innovation, and student success.
The Board recognized Nicole Holder of Bayou View Middle School and Thomas Whitfield of 28th Street Elementary School as the district's Counselors of the Year. Both educators were honored for their dedication to supporting students' academic achievement, social-emotional well-being, and future success. Through their guidance and advocacy, they help create positive learning environments where students can thrive.
The Board also celebrated Team Fusion 364 from Gulfport High School for its accomplishments and continued success in competitive robotics. Team Fusion exemplifies innovation, teamwork, and problem-solving while providing students with valuable experiences in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
In addition, trustees recognized the Gulfport High School Powerlifting State Champions for their outstanding achievements during the 2025-2026 season. Through discipline, determination, and hard work, these student-athletes earned state championship honors and represented Gulfport with excellence.
The meeting also included recognition of teachers participating in the district’s AIM Pathways to Proficient Reading initiative. These educators were honored for their commitment to advancing literacy instruction and helping students build the strong reading foundations necessary for lifelong learning and success.
